About attaching to EKPC’s transmission poles
All attachment requests must follow EKPC’s Pole Attachment Tariff, as approved by the Public Service Commission of Kentucky pursuant to 807 KAR 5:011 SECTION 9 (1).
EKPC is a transmission owner, but has no retail customers and no distribution system. Generally, our transmission line routes are cross-country and the lines are constructed with long spans. They are not designed with clearances that include communication space, and structures are not designed to support additional cables. EKPC serves distribution cooperative members in rural areas, and many of our transmission lines are radial, meaning that make-ready work could require transmission hot-work (construction or reconfiguration while conductors are energized at high voltage) or customer outages. Coordination for outages related to make-ready work may also require coordination and approval through PJM, EKPC’s RTO (regional transmission organization).
Contractor Lists and Construction Standards
Due to the transmission voltages supplied by our structures and the reliability standards for those facilities, EKPC personnel must review and approve any proposed changes or additions. EKPC does not have pre-approved construction standards or contractors. Approval of any work will require an extensive review before any changes or additions will be authorized. Please complete and submit the Pole Attachment Request Application. Confirmation that your request has been received should be sent to you by return email within 2 business days.
