Transmission Functions

Manager, System Operations 

Directs and manages EKPC Energy Control Center and Backup Control Center operations. Ensures all activities performed by System Operations are done so in compliance with regulatory requirements such as NERC Reliability Standards. Directs the operation of the EKPC transmission system within acceptable limits to ensure reliable service to the member systems.

 

Trainer, System Operations 

Responsible for the development, maintenance and implementation of a NERC compliant System Operator Training program for EKPC's generation and transmission system operators. 

 

Supervisor, Transmission Operations 

Maintains continuity of transmission service to the Member Cooperatives. Ensures the EKPC transmission system is operated in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner. Ensures that the Member Cooperatives are kept abreast of all transmission system conditions that may impact the distribution system. Ensures that transmission/control area personnel are trained to operate in accordance with NERC/SERC standards and EKPC operating practices. Oversees, guides, motivates and directs the activities of the workgroup to ensure that team goals are accomplished to achieve high performance business results. Maintains overall authority and accountability for the workgroup. 

 

System Operator, Transmission Operations

Ensures the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric system through timely and appropriate real-time actions during normal and emergency conditions, and if necessary shedding firm load to prevent or alleviate System Operating Limit or Interconnection Reliability Operating Limit violations, without obtaining approval from a higher-level personnel within EKPC. Maintains the continuity of transmission service to the Member Cooperatives. Coordinates EKPC transmission system operations to maintain safety and reliability of the EKPC system and the Eastern Interconnect. 

 

Senior Engineer, System Operations

Ensure safe and reliable operation of the transmission system within the compliance requirements of FERC, NERC, and SERC while maintaining the continuity of transmission service to the member distribution cooperatives. Provide the Transmission Operators an assessment of the predicted impact of contingencies on the transmission system under current real-time conditions. Enable the Transmission Operations Team to better manage transmission congestion and associated costs due to transmission system reconfiguration or re-dispatch of generating units. Analyze real-time and scheduled transmission system outage conditions to ensure reliable operation of the EKPC transmission system. Develop, implement, and maintain computer application tools such as AGC, state estimator, contingency analyzer, dynamic limits, and operator training simulator to enhance the system operators’ situational awareness of current real-time system conditions.

 

Engineer, System Operations

This position uses system models to study real-time and scheduled transmission system outage conditions to ensure reliable operation of the EKPC transmission system. Enables the Transmission Operations Team to better manage transmission congestion through power flow studies. Develops documents, processes, and procedures to ensure NERC compliance. Supports all transmission activities to ensure the operation of a safe and reliable power system required to maintain the continuity of transmission service to the Member Cooperatives. Supports computer application tools such as AGC, state estimator, contingency analyzer, dynamic limits, and operator training simulator to enhance the system operators' situational awareness of current real-time system conditions.

 

Engineer I, System Operations 

This is an entry-level engineer position responsible for providing assistance in performing a variety of engineering tasks and using system models to study real-time and scheduled transmission system outage conditions to ensure the reliable operation of the EKPC transmission system.
